Stick Pack Machines

SOMA multi-lane stick pack machines for powders, granules and liquids: 2 to 16 lanes, sticks up to 50 mm wide, and complete lines with cartoning.

Stick pack machines form, fill and seal narrow single-serve sticks from a roll of film, several lanes at a time. SOMA's range runs 2 to 16 lanes for powders, granules and liquids.

  • 2 to 16 lanes side by side
  • 720 sticks a minute on 12 lanes
  • 1 to 150 ml liquid fill range

What a stick pack machine does

A stick pack machine is a vertical form fill seal machine built for long, narrow single-serve packs. Film runs off a roll and is formed into a narrow tube in each lane, then filled with a measured dose, sealed and cut. A multi-lane machine runs several lanes side by side, so one machine can make hundreds of sticks a minute.

Stick packs are a common format for drink mixes, sugar, coffee, supplements and pharmaceutical powders, and for liquids such as honey, sauces, gels and cosmetics. For larger bags, see our VFFS guide; for flat single-serve packs, see sachets.

SOMA's stick pack range

Four families cover powder, liquid, both, and complete lines with cartoning.

SM-700P and SM-700L

Powder or liquid. 1 to 50 g of powder or 1 to 100 ml of liquid per stick, on 2 to 12 lanes at 25 to 60 cycles a minute.

SM-702PL and SM-704PL

Powder and liquid. Both product types from one machine. The SM-704PL adds servo controls and reaches 70 cycles a minute.

SM-730L

Up to 16 lanes. The high-capacity liquid model: up to 80 cycles a minute, 150 ml per stick, sticks up to 50 × 250 mm.

SM-702L and SM-703L

Complete lines. Liquid stick pack lines that add automatic feeding, counting and cartoning.

Lanes, speed and stick size

Output is lanes times cycles: a 12-lane machine at 60 cycles a minute makes up to 720 sticks a minute.

  • Sticks 15 to 40 mm wide and 50 to 200 mm long on most models
  • Up to 50 × 250 mm sticks on the SM-730L
  • Dose and speed adjust while running, with real-time monitoring
  • Film and cut position correct without stopping the line

Try your product before you buy

Our PSG Lab machines make sample stick packs, sachets and pouches on the bench, so you can trial films, seal settings and fill weights, or hand buyers real samples, before committing to a production machine.

Common questions

How many sticks a minute can a stick pack machine make?

Multiply lanes by cycles a minute. A 12-lane SOMA machine at 60 cycles makes up to 720 sticks a minute, and the 16-lane SM-730L runs at up to 80 cycles.

Can one machine pack both powder and liquid?

Yes. The SM-702PL and SM-704PL run both, so one machine can cover both kinds of product.

What size stick packs can SOMA machines make?

Most models take sticks 15 to 40 mm wide and 50 to 200 mm long. The SM-730L takes sticks up to 50 mm wide and 250 mm long.
