Start with how your product moves
Packaged products ride through a conveyor detector. The NMD-530 Conveyor takes belts from 200 to 600 mm wide at speeds up to 60 m/min, and the value-engineered NMD500 series covers lines running up to 28 m/min in six fixed head sizes.
Powders and granules drop through a gravity-fall detector before they are packed; the NMD-530 Fall Type takes tube diameters from 50 to 150 mm and up to 20 tons an hour. Pumped meats, slurries, and sauces run through the NMD-530 Pipe Line, which starts at 80 mm pipe and rejects through a ball valve. Tablets and capsules have their own pharmaceutical model.
The NMD580 SEEKER is the flagship of the range: seven selectable frequencies plus a mixed mode, an IP66 washdown rating, and conveyor, pharmaceutical, fall, and pipeline versions.
Aperture size and sensitivity
A metal detector is most sensitive when the aperture is only as big as the product needs, so choosing the head size matters as much as choosing the model. The NMD500 series comes in six: 350 × 100 and 350 × 150 mm heads on a 300 mm belt, and 450 × 150, 450 × 180, 450 × 200, and 450 × 250 mm heads on a 400 mm belt.
Wet, salty, or warm products such as cheese, meat, and pickled foods can produce a signal of their own, known as product effect. Multi-frequency detectors are built to separate that signal from real contaminants. The NMD580 adds product-effect tracking, and the NMD500 series stores 50 product presets so operators can change SKUs without re-tuning.
Foil and metalized packaging
Aluminum caps, metalized pouches, and retort packs look like metal to a standard detector. The NAD4000 family is built for them. The Standard-AB uses a dual A/B detection arrangement for reliable results through metalized film, the Economy is the lower-cost entry point, the Alcon Combi adds an automatic reject conveyor, and the Composite pairs foil detection with a checkweigher on a single 2,300 mm conveyor.
If foil-packed products also carry glass, stone, or bone risks, compare these with an X-ray inspection system.
Rejects, records, and combination units
A detector is only as useful as what happens when it alarms. Across the range you can choose belt stop with an audible alarm and tower lamp, an automatic reject conveyor, or a ball-valve diverter on pipelines. The NMD-530 pharmaceutical and pipeline models keep a detection history behind password protection for audit trails.
Short on floor space? The NCB 450/490 Combi detects ferrous metal down to 0.5 mm, non-ferrous to 0.8 mm, and stainless steel to 1.0 mm while checking weights from 5 g to 3 kg in one compact unit. The NWC3000 Combi pairs a high-speed checkweigher with a metal detector inline.
