Case Packers

Case packers group finished products and load them into shipping cases. RADPAK and SGE Robotica cover the main styles, from about 6 cases a minute on a side-load packer to 120 or more on a robotic system.
Four ways to pack a case
Wrap-around case packers fold a flat corrugated blank around the product group and glue it shut, so the case fits the product tightly. RADPAK's RKZ series runs up to 25 cases a minute on the RKZ-18NG and 18 on the RKZ-22, which also packs open trays. The RKZ-27 trades speed (up to 12 a minute) for cases up to 600 mm wide.
Top-load packers load the product group into an erected case from above; the RGZ-50 and RGZ-100 run up to 10 cases a minute with four-flap cases. Side-load packers push the group in horizontally for tight packing; the RGH-100 takes cases up to 600 mm long at up to 6 a minute.
Robotic case packers use vision-guided robot arms and quick-change grippers to pack bottles, jars, cans, pouches, flow-wraps, and trays. SGE Robotica's Robotic Case Packer runs from 20 to more than 120 cases a minute depending on configuration, with recipe-driven format changes in under five minutes.
Case erectors and tray formers
Packing by hand or with a robot into pre-formed cases still needs something to form them. The RKF-15T erects American-style regular slotted containers (RSC) and seals them with tape, and the RKF-25G forms four-flap cases and seals the bottom with hot melt. For tray packing, the RT-01 forms trays from flat blanks at up to 40 a minute, and the RGT-60 packs sachets into display trays at up to 10 a minute.
Wrap-around or regular slotted case?
The regular slotted container is the most common shipping case: easy to source, easy to erect on its own, and easy to pack by hand if the line is down. Wrap-around cases are formed around the product, giving a tight, square case that stacks well and can use less board. The right choice depends on your product, pallet pattern, and what your customers expect to receive.
What to have ready for a quote
Product type and dimensions, count and pattern per case, case style and size, target cases per minute, tape or hot-melt sealing, how often you change formats, and what sits either side of the packer, such as a checkweigher before it and a palletizer after it.
