Robotic cell or cobot?
A robotic palletizing cell uses a 4-, 5-, or 6-axis industrial robot inside a guarded cell. SGE Robotica's cells can run single or multi-station palletizing, with dedicated infeed lines, automatic empty-pallet supply, automatic full-pallet discharge, and a built-in pallet wrapping unit, so a finished pallet leaves the cell ready to ship.
A cobot palletizer uses a collaborative robot designed to work alongside people without perimeter safety fencing. It needs far less floor space and a smaller investment, and it can be moved between packaging lines as needs change. As with any robot, the final guarding for your application comes from a risk assessment.
How to choose
Weigh cases per minute, case weight, how many lines feed the palletizer, the number of SKUs and pallet patterns, floor space, and budget. Cobots suit slower lines, lighter cases, and a first step into automation; full robotic cells take heavier loads, higher speeds, and several lines at once.
Patterns and changeovers
On the robotic cells, pallet patterns are built in a drag-and-drop pattern builder rather than robot code, and gripping heads are custom-designed around your product. The cobot is programmed through a simple interface that needs no robotics expertise, handles cases, bags, bundles, and trays, and changes quickly between product formats and pallet patterns.
Plan the whole end of the line
A palletizer is usually the last machine in a chain: case erecting and packing, checkweighing or X-ray of finished cases, then palletizing and wrapping. Planning them together avoids bottlenecks at the transfers.
