Cartoning Machines
RADPAK horizontal and vertical cartoning machines: side-loading cartoners up to 180 cartons a minute, and top-loaders for fragile or loose products.
Cartoning machines erect a flat carton blank, load the product and glue the carton shut. RADPAK builds horizontal and vertical cartoners at up to 180 cartons a minute, and SGE Robotica's robotic case packer loads cartons with vision-guided robots.
- 180 cartons a minute, top speed
- 3 ways to load: side, top or robot
- 300 × 360 mm largest carton
Horizontal, vertical or robotic?
How the product goes into the carton decides the machine.
Horizontal cartoner
Up to 180 a minute. Forms the carton on its side and pushes the product in. Fast, for products that hold their shape: blister packs, tubes, bundles of sachets or stick packs, and food portions.
Vertical cartoner
Loads from the top. Stands the carton upright and loads it from above. For fragile or odd-shaped products, bags and pouches, and loose goods like dishwasher salt or grass seed.
Robotic loading
20 to 120+ a minute. SGE Robotica's vision-guided robots pick bottles, jars, cans, pouches, flow-wraps and trays into cartons or cases, with format changes in under five minutes.
Continuous or intermittent motion
Every RADPAK cartoner comes in two versions.
Intermittent (S models)
Up to 60 a minute. Stops each carton at the loading point, which keeps the machine simple to run. Up to 60 cartons a minute horizontally, or 25 to 30 vertically.
Continuous (C models)
Up to 180 a minute. Keeps cartons moving for higher output: 180 a minute on the RKH-06C, 160 on the RKH-09C, 140 on the RKH-12C and 70 on the vertical RKV-09C and RKV-12C.
Carton sizes
Pick the model by the size of your carton.
- Horizontal: from 30 mm wide on the RKH-06 to 250 × 320 mm on the RKH-12C, 25 to 80 mm high
- Vertical RKV-12: cartons 100 to 200 mm wide, up to 300 mm long
- Vertical RKV-16: cartons up to 300 × 360 mm
- RKV-16 option: a scale that doses loose product straight into the carton
Built from parts that are easy to find
RADPAK cartoners use widely used brands, which keeps spare parts simple to source.
- Allen-Bradley or Siemens PLC with a swing-arm touch panel
- Nordson ProBlue hot-melt gluing
- SEW or Nord drives
- SICK sensors and Festo pneumatics
Part of a complete line
A cartoner usually sits right after the primary packer, taking counted stick packs, sachets, pouches or tubes, and before the case packer and robotic palletizer at the end of the line. SOMA's stick pack lines can include cartoning.

Common questions
Do I need a horizontal or a vertical cartoner?
If your product holds its shape and can be pushed in from the side, a horizontal cartoner is faster. If it's fragile, odd-shaped, a bag or pouch, or loose product, a vertical cartoner that loads from the top is the better fit.
Can a cartoner dose loose product into the carton?
Yes. The vertical RKV-16 can add an integrated scale that weighs a set dose straight into each carton, so no inner bag is needed.
Can a robot load cartons instead?
Yes. SGE Robotica's Robotic Case Packer uses vision-guided robots to pick products into cartons or cases at 20 to more than 120 a minute, and suits lines whose products or pack counts change often.
